Where Will Lionel Messi Go After He Leaves PSG?

Lionel Messi, a legendary who plays as forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team is undoubtedly one of the best players the world has ever seen.

Lionel Messi is the perfect embodiment of what the number 10 jersey represents in modern football. The diminutive left-footed magician is one of the best goal-scorers of all time. He has made the number 10 Messi jersey more and more popular, wearing it in the Argentina national team as well as during his stint in Barcelona.

As reported, he will leave PSG this summer transfer window when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

Messi International Career in Argentina

Messi is the Argentina’s all-time leading goalscorer and also holds the national record for appearances.

At youth level, he won the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, finishing the tournament with both the Golden Ball and Golden Shoe, and an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

After his senior debut in August 2005, Messi became the youngest Argentine to play and score in a FIFA World Cup (2006), and reached the final of the 2007 Copa América, where he was named young player of the tournament. After announcing his international retirement in 2016, he reversed his decision and led his country to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In 2022, he led Argentina to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Messi Argentina jersey sold out worldwide even before the game.

Messis Clubs Career

Messi joined Barcelona at the age of 13 and has broken all possible club records through his journey.

Messi is no ordinary footballer. He holds all of the main records in FC Barcelona history with his Messi Barcelona jersey number 10. He has the most appearances for the team and scored the most goals with an unbelievable 672 goals in 778 matches for the Barça across all competitions and he also collected an unbelievable collection of silverware. But it's not club records he has set. It's not just Spanish records. The player has smashed a number of European and world records, some of which few people believed could ever be beaten in the modern era.

In the summer of 2021, Messi was forced to switch clubs owing to the Spanish outfit’s financial crisis. Then, he joined the Paris Saint-Germain Football Club as a free agent on a two-year contract. Messi wears PSG jersey number 30 , the number which he debuted and scored his first ever professional senior goal.

The Argentine’s first season with PSG was not quite up to his standards as he was unable to score as regularly as we had gotten used to.

Comes to 2022, a more settled Messi looks in fine form once more. In two seasons at PSG, he won two French league titles and the French Champions Trophy while notching 32 goals and 35 assists in all competitions.

Messi Transfer Rumor

Messi’s contract with PSG will end on June 30, he will transfer to his next club as a free agent in this summer. Several developments occur in relation to this World Cup winner. Inter Miami, Barcelona and Saudi Arabia are being touted as the most likely potential destinations after he released from the PSG.

There are reports that Al-Hilal are offering Messi €400million (£345m) per season to play for them, which would make him dethrone Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of Forbes' list of the World's Highest-Paid Athletes. If he accepts the monster offer, it would be a major boost for Saudi Arabia with having two superstars of world football playing in their professional league tournaments. Before that, the Argentine superstar was paid a reported £25m to become a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia last year and has regularly posted pictures of himself and his family in the country on social media since.

In contrast to the pragmatic choice of Al-Hilal, a Barcelona homecoming would be the romantic option. FC Barcelona remain Messi's number once choice as per his next destination according to the Spanish outlet, but the Catalans are experiencing delays in La Liga approving their financial viability plan.

Some new soccer fans may not know why did Messi leave Barcelona. Messi left the Camp Nou in 2021 due to the club’s chronic financial mismanagement under Josep Maria Bartomeu’s presidency and La Liga’s stringent tightening of salary rules, rather than of his own accord and a return would surely appeal.

Just as in 2021, though, the fiscal obstacles which stopped Barcelona from keeping Messi could prevent them from bringing him back in 2023.

Nevertheless, Barcelona look to be heading in a positive direction on the field once more after cruising to the La Liga title under Messi’s long-time team-mate Xavi. Unsurprisingly, he has made little secret of his desire to be reunited with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

MLS is also an option for this 35-year-old footballer. If Messi decides to head to the MLS, Inter Miami are regarded as his most likely destination, particularly if his former Barcelona and Argentina manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino is appointed as Neville’s successor. Javi Morales, another Argentine, is currently in charge on a temporary basis.

Inter Miami would be unable to match the riches proposed by Al-Hilal, lack the emotional pull of Barcelona and are struggling on the field as they languish in last place in the MLS’ eastern conference. But the lifestyle may appeal to Messi, who purchased a luxury apartment in the Florida city last year.
